Count Five Psychotic Reaction Vinyl In the mid-'60s in San Jose, a group of teens got together under then name The Squires. They played around town and became a local favorite. But, when member Sean Byrne penned a song called "Psychotic Reaction", the band was thrust onto the national stage. Having changed their name to The Count Five, the group's 1966 album Psychotic Reaction landed on the Billboard 200 chart and the song itself made it all the way to #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The group disbanded in 1967, just one year after their single hit the airwaves. The title track, "Psychotic Reaction", from the 1966 debut album from Count Five peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was one of the earliest successful acid/psychedelic rock songs. The song was included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of the '500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll' in 2014.
